ElBaradei says Iran, Syria not cooperating enough

PARIS (Reuters) - Iran is still not cooperating with efforts to resolve outstanding questions regarding its nuclear programme, International Atomic Energy Agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei said on Tuesday.

The head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog repeated that Iran was meeting its obligations to allow inspectors into nuclear sites, but the lack of cooperation regarded questions on past activities

"Iran right now is not providing any access or any clarification with regard to those studies or the whole possible military dimension," ElBaradei said in Paris at a media event.

CAP warns of ovarian cancer risk in talcum powder

GEORGE TOWN: Instead of using talcum powder which poses health risks, consumers should use traditional bedak sejuk (rice talcum), says the Consumers Association of Penang (CAP).

The association made the call following findings in the United States that suggest that women who use talcum powder are 40% more likely to suffer from ovarian cancer

CAP president S.M. Mohd Idris said bedak sejuk (powder made from rice flour) and powder made from corn flour were good alternatives to talcum powder.

Selangor attracts RM11.8bil investment

PETALING JAYA: Selangor attracted a total of RM11.8bil investment last year.

The amount, the highest achieved within a year, is RM700mil more than that of the previous year.

Selangor State Investment Centre (SSIC) CEO Datuk Mohd Jabar Kembali said investments from both local and foreign entrepreneurs were almost equal.

Banks brace for hard times

PETALING JAYA: Competition is heating up in the home loans segment as banks try to defend, as well as expand, their turf.

The banks expectat prolonged hard times and a further drop in consumer spending amid worsening economic conditions, analysts said.

“Consumer loans currently constitute about 54% of total bank loans and is a major source of revenue for banks,” an analyst told StarBiz. “Many of them may employ different strategies to carve a larger share in the home loans business, which may include promotions and home loans products.”
